The latest attacks by the Yemeni army come on the sixth anniversary of the Saudi invasion of the country. The Yemeni army, backed by Ansarullah forces, has conducted similar attacks in the past. China UK sanctions

China has imposed sanctions on more than a dozen British companies and individuals for what it called spreading lies about the situation of its Muslim Uyghur minority. Five British lawmakers including former Conservative Party leader, Iain Duncan Smith, are among those sanctioned. All of the sanctioned parties will be barred from Chinese territory, while their assets will be frozen. Also, Chinese citizens and institutions will be banned from doing business with them. China says the measures are in response to UK sanctions over alleged human rights abuses against Uyghurs.

UN Tigray warning

The UN’s deputy humanitarian coordinator for Ethiopia has warned of “an alarming crisis” in the conflict-hit Tigray region. In a virtual briefing to the UN, Wafaa Saeed, pointed to targeted civilian killings and hundreds of recent rape cases. Saeed said an increasing number of people are fleeing violence, while more than four million need food. The UN official said children are on the brink of starvation in Tigray. The northern Ethiopian region has witnessed fighting between Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's forces and regional leaders since November 2020. The fighting has killed thousands of people and displaced hundreds of thousands. Earlier this month, UN leaders called for an investigation into possible war crimes and crimes against humanity in Tigray.
